New Planet Fitness survey looks at New Year’s goals and gym culture

NEWINGTON, NH (January 5, 2016) – As 2016 begins and New Year’s resolutions such as joining a gym and getting fit are top of mind, Planet Fitness, home of the Judgement Free Zone® and one of the largest and fastest-growing franchisors and operators of fitness centers in the United States, has announced a nationwide offer in all 1,000+ Planet Fitness locations. Now through January 14, people can join any Planet Fitness club at a low enrollment fee of just $10, and then $10 a month.

Additionally, Planet Fitness commissioned a new independent survey of 1,000 people to take a look at New Year’s goals and gym culture in America, and found:

• Optimism is high for 2016. 94% of Americans with a fitness-related New Year’s resolution believe they’ll achieve it.

• What makes for a positive gym experience? More than half (54%) of Americans say the top contributor to a positive gym culture is a friendly staff, followed by low membership prices (51%) and clean facilities (50%).

• Biggest barriers to joining a gym. Cost is the number one obstacle, given by 41% of Americans, for not going to the gym, followed by lack of motivation (28%) and inconvenience (27%).

“This is the time when people are thinking about their wishes for the New Year and considering joining a gym. For those looking to make fitness part of their resolutions for 2016, I encourage them to join Planet Fitness during this great offer,” said Chris Rondeau, Planet Fitness’ Chief Executive Officer. “As the survey shows, there are factors that might keep people from the gym, but at Planet Fitness we focus on creating a friendly, comfortable, and non-intimidating environment at a price that everyone can afford. We’re excited to support everyone who’s optimistic about their resolutions, and encourage everyone to take the first step toward reaching their health and fitness goals.”

Planet Fitness has revolutionized the fitness industry with extremely low prices ($10 or $19.99 a month) and offers a variety of benefits including a hassle-free, non-intimidating environment called the Judgement Free Zone®, state-of-the-art cardio and strength equipment, fully equipped locker rooms, flat screen televisions, unlimited small group fitness instruction by a certified trainer through the pe @ pf ® program, and much more.
