Club Reopening Plans

We are working closely with our franchisees to monitor local guidelines and begin safely reopening our clubs as gyms are given permission to reopen. When a club’s official reopening date has been set, you’ll be the first to know! You can also check your local club page on PlanetFitness.com/gyms or your club’s Facebook page for updates.

Enhanced Cleanliness Procedures - the Clean Thumb Club™

Your health and safety is our #1 priority, and we've been working hard to get ready to reopen and welcome you back to the Judgement Free Zone®. As a leader in the fitness industry, we’ve always had extremely high cleanliness and sanitization standards in place. Our team members conduct regular and thorough cleaning of all equipment, surfaces, and areas of the club and regularly complete deep cleanings. Although we cannot eliminate all risks associated with COVID-19, we've taken several additional steps to strengthen our existing cleanliness policies and procedures to help keep you and our team members safe when your club reopens.

Below are some of the changes you can expect from us when you return:

  • Team members will receive daily temperature checks when they arrive to work each day
  • All team members will have completed extensive training related to our enhanced cleanliness and sanitization policies and procedures
  • Increased, thorough cleaning will be conducted using disinfectant on the EPA list effective against COVID-19. This includes 20-minute walk arounds by our team to continually clean and sanitize high-touch areas
  • Increased sanitization stations will be available throughout the gym floor for member use – look for the yellow flags!
  • Touchless check-in is available via the free Planet Fitness app. Simply download the app in advance and scan in at the front desk. In addition to a touch-less check-in experience, our app also puts the gym in your pocket with over 500 workouts at your fingertips.
  • Some pieces of cardio equipment will be temporarily marked out of use to enable Social Fitnessing™ and create additional distance between members
  • New signage will be placed throughout the club that highlights our sanitization and Social Fitnessing™ guidelines
  • PE@PF will be temporarily modified to solely focus on individual “Design Your Own Program” (DYOP) sessions. You can sign up for a session on the Planet Fitness app!
  • Additional information about operating hours or other local guidelines that may apply can be found on your club page.

We encourage you to download the Planet Fitness mobile app to allow for a touchless check-in process. We are asking that all of our members Be Cleansiderate™ at our clubs and disinfect equipment before and after use. Additionally, you should plan to practice Social Fitnessing™ by putting an imaginary treadmill or two between yourself and others to adhere to physical distancing guidelines.

We have provided personal protective equipment (PPE) to our team members including masks which will be required for staff to wear, and gloves to use for extensive cleaning. Unless otherwise noted, members are not required to wear a mask or gloves unless local guidelines require it, but you are welcome to do so if you feel more comfortable. Together with our franchisees, we will continue to follow the recommendations of local authorities at each of our clubs in order to take every necessary precaution to ensure the safety of our community.

Yes, we do! You will find increased sanitization stations throughout the gym, fully stocked with disinfected spray and hand sanitizer. We want to keep our PF community strong and healthy!

Yes. To encourage and enable Social Fitnessing™, some pieces of equipment will be temporarily marked out of use to create additional distance between members.

  • The CDC recommends you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water before using equipment
  • Remember to disinfect equipment before and after use
  • Maintain physical distance between members and team members
  • Please stay home if you're not feeling well. Don’t worry, we’ll be here for you when you feel better!

We couldn’t do it without our awesome PF team members, and their health and safety is our priority.  We are providing all team members with PPE such as masks and gloves. They have conducted extensive training on our enhanced cleanliness and sanitization policies and procedures upon returning to work. Additionally, all team members will have their temperatures taken when they arrive for work each day.

We know you missed your local PF trainer – they missed you too! To enable physical distancing and keep our team members and members safe, PE@PF will be temporarily modified to focus solely on individual “Design Your Own Program” (DYOP) sessions for the time being. You can sign up for a session on the Planet Fitness app!

Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily suspended our Pizza Monday and Bagel Tuesday events. Our top priority is your health and safety, and temporarily suspending these events helps us to maintain appropriate physical distance between members and team members, and lessen the amount of touch points between people, food and other surfaces. We will continue to evaluate the situation as it evolves and will be sure to keep you up to date with any future changes to our offerings.

The Judgement Free Zone® @ Home

Yes, we’re here for you! Our mission is to keep you moving through our United We Move™ initiative. While our clubs are temporarily closed, we’re bringing the best of our Judgement Free Zone® to you.

Check out the Planet Fitness Facebook Page for "Home Work-Ins" - a series of free fitness workouts for everyone – streamed live daily at 7 p.m. ET, and at 8 a.m. ET Monday and Wednesday, hosted by our trainers and surprise celebrity guests. For anyone who can’t participate live, each workout will also be available to view on both the Planet Fitness Facebook page and YouTube channel after the broadcast is over. There is no equipment needed and all classes will be 20 minutes or less. Learn more about United We Move™.

Membership Questions

Yes, we’ve got your back and have proactively frozen all memberships on your behalf. You will not be charged any fees while your club is closed. We will keep you informed and let you know when your club is ready to reopen, and look forward to serving you in a clean, sanitary, and judgement free environment. Can’t wait to see you back in the club soon!

Unfortunately the timing of mandates and closures lead to some of our members being billed shortly before we closed. Rest assured that you will not be charged for any days when the club was closed. We will make an adjustment on your next billing cycle when your club reopens.

If you have a prepaid membership, the expiration date of your membership will be adjusted by the number of closed days. For example, if we are closed 30 days and your membership was set to end on or about November 30, that membership will be extended to on or about December 30.
