Planet Fitness joins the reality TV craze with new primetime show

HAMPTON, N.H.— Planet Fitness Inc., one of the largest operators of fitness centers in the U.S., announced its sponsorship of the new physical competition series “Million Dollar Mile” as “the official workout partner,” premiering March 27 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.

The show is from NBA star Lebron James, the executive producers of “Big Brother” and SpringHill Entertainment along with Lee Metzger serving as executive producer and showrunner.

Former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow hosts with Matt “Money” Smith and ESPN reporter Maria Taylor acting as show commentators.

“Million Dollar Mile” is a new 10-episode high-stakes competition series where contestants have the chance to win $1,000,000 every time they run the “Million Dollar Mile.” The only thing standing in their way is the most challenging course ever designed and a group of elite athletes – known as Defenders — with one mission: to stop the contestants from winning the money at all costs.

Contestants are given a two-minute head start and will need to show what they’re made of against the Defenders, a group of 10 top-ranked international athletes, including a Green Beret and “Army Athlete of the Year,” the most decorated Obstacle Course Race (OCR) athlete in history and a two-time Guinness World Record holder for both the farthest and highest wall flips.

Before the challenge begins, contestants will prepare for what lies ahead, both mentally and physically, in the Planet Fitness Warm Up Room. It will feature the brand’s high-quality cardio and strength equipment (also available in more than 1,700 Planet Fitness locations nationwide) to help contestants prepare for the challenge of their lives with a proper total body workout.
